My provider is useless and unhelpful in to the bargain.
Any recommendations?
Thanks

Sky weren't too bad at all. If I lived in the UK in an area that had cable, I would absolutely go for cable broadband - chuffing marvellous!
I found Virgin's ASDL service to be absolutely blooming dreadful, so switched to Sky.

We use BT Internet and for us it works pretty well. We would like a faster BB but there is no Cable in the village so are stuck for the time being. Check This for comparisons.

Shy, I'm curious as to who your current provider is !
I guess it depends on what is available to you in your area, as we can't get any kind of cable connection so have to rely on providers via the telephone line. We have been using Tiscali for about 2/3 years now and have the occasional glitch but for £14.99 a month it's fine. Although we are constantly told that we " could " get up to a certain level of speed, we only get around a quarter of it because the connection that BT give us from the exchange is absolute rubbish, so just be careful on what the providers say you can get and what you actually can get.

Peek the site I suggested also operate a speed rating service so that can be checked as long as one is already on a BB package.

I currently use Sky as it's been free (apart from the setup cost) although it'll shortly be £5 a month. That's for the rock bottom package and with a premium channels subscription though!
We get a very poor connection where I am (memo, must restart the router again) so no point paying for more. The one downside is you are forced into using the Sky router. I have a much better wireless router that gives a more stable ADSL connection and better wireless!
I might change to Orange soon as I've got a contract phone so it'll stay free!

If we get any more problems with Tiscali, we are considering moving to plus.net www.plus.net/

A friend uses Talk Talk and was happy with the service last time we talked about broad band. I have used TalkTalk phone and internet about a year before they came out with those 'free internet' adverts. So I never had the problem of the too many folks trying to sign up in a short period. I have recomonded the service before and I know of 2 folks who are using it without any problems. What I did like was that I was on a 18 month inital contract when they brought out the 'free internet' adverts and they allowed existing customers to move onto that plan. As with most of these ISPs their Customer Service is a waste of space. They sent a letter out on Friday stating that I would loose telephone connection for about an hour and internetrecommendedinitial for 4 hours as they moved me from BT to their own equipment in the local exchange. The date for this changeover - this was to happen the next day. The letter arrived the following Tuesday.

I used to be with Orange but had so many problems after moving house plus I was driven to the brink of insanity with their call centre in India. Eventually, I changed to Zen Internet and they have been brilliant. Their call centre is in England and their operators are really helpful.

I am with Ctghost on this one. I went with Sky because overall it seemed the best package at the time. The proviso was that though we were not in a Sky enabled area (and therefore had to get Sky Broadband Connect), we would be soon? This has not materialised and we do not use the TV package all that much. We are going back to Virgin BB, as we live in a cable enabled area and the speeds will be better.

I use Virgin and have their 3 for £30 package. It is very rarely problematic and if there is a problem, I can usually get it sorted pretty quickly with a free phone call.
Because I am on that, I also took up an offer on a mobile contract of £10 a month for 300 mins and 300 texts so we use the mobile for all daytime calls and use the free calls on evenings and weekends.
