Hi TOGs, I have made it at last - it's a bit hi-techisn't it? Like many, I can remember Tel first time around - back seat of mum's MG 1300 on the way to school and all that stuff. I have listened ever since and sometimes report on the goings-on at the R2 Retirement Home in deepest West Sussex. You know it's mine if Sir Jimmy Young is somehow involved. Like you are huge fans of Tel, I became a fan of Jimmy in the early 80's, although can remember him long before and the banter between Jim and Tel - classic radio. Anyway, my support of Jim around the time of his departure from R2 resulted in my having regular contact both with Jim and his lovely wife, Alicia. I have met up with them a couple of times and was honoured (Jim being a private person) to be invited to their London home late last year. It was a day I will long remember. They made me so welcome and sitting for hours in their conservatory sharing memories of The Prog, R2 in the days of John Dunn, Ray Moore and dear old Derek Jameson and Jim's previous career was a wonderful if surreal experience. I will post further info if TOGs are interested...................

Welcome and yes, I loved Jimmy too. In fact when he went it was the end of Radio 2 after Ken Bruce for me and onto Radio 4!

I didn't know Jimmy's show or listen much at that time of day anyway so the new guy is quite acceptable to me.
Regardless of this wittering - welcome Jyfan and mines a bucket of G&T when you get to the bar!
*wonders who will be doing the medical?*

I have the phone number for the prog written down in a cookery book....I must have been baking something when I became incensed by the discussion and made the effort to phone in with my comments. Unfortunately I can't recall what I became so agitato about.

Sad to hear that Sir Jimmy Young has passed away at the grand age of 95. Happy memories of a fine broadcaster. Been listening to Town talk - played loud: www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7J6evZ55OY
