I suppose flower arranging could be classed as a creative art, if not, feel free to move it. Now that I have been sacked as taxi driver to the Tygs, (they can both drive themselves now), I have rejoined the WI (Wild Indians, or more commonly known as Women's Institute). Last night I attended a flower arranging class, and was rather pleased with my result. As opposed to my usual 'stuffing them in a vase', I have an 'arrangement'. Feel free to comment, good or bad, it is helpful to know these things.

Of course flower arranging is creative.
I like the asymmetric nature of this one - have you twisted the stem of the gerbera(?) around the blue flower stem (delphinium?)?
I like gerberas but their stems just don't have the muscle to hold up the flowers.

I know very little about flower arranging, so I wouldn't attempt to advise you on your efforts. What you have there looks good to me and is as creative as anything else we get on here so feel free to post more of your creations for us to see.

Doubly creative as the photo is not half bad either. Just lose the photo frame - or ask Paul nicely and he will do it for you.

That's lovely, I never did master the art even though I did a bit at college with chinese earth and water something or other (was is iki bana??) Not that I ever get flowers, but on the rare occasion, they are put into a posh pint glass btw I think your photo is smashing too well done xx

Thank you, for your kind comments. The gerbera is standing on its own, Ives, it must be the way the stems look. Thank you Carl, I was thinking about getting the arrangement in and never thought about the picture frame behind. Doh! Sarah, I usually stuff my flowers, when rarely received, into a vase, so I jumped at the chance to be shown how to 'arrange'. If you get the opportunity, join a class, we all had great fun, and were all pleased with our first effort. Next week we are doing one in a candlestick, I will post a picture if it is successful. x

Shemmy it is very easy to not notice the background. I took a photo of a friend's daughter at her 1st Communion and it was only afterwards that I realised I should have asked her to stand in front of a nearby tree not the drab grey 1960's building that was the backdrop.
Best of luck with the candlestick I am sure you will have loads of inspiration. BTW does it have to be in the candlestick or could the candlestick form part of the structure?

Thanks MC, that looks a whole lot better. Carl, the arrangement is in the candlestick. How is this for novel? We need to cut the top off a coke bottle and invert it to stick in the candlestick, to hold the oasis ( the block of stuff you stick the flowers in). I think that is rather clever recycling. I have a week to drink a bottle of coke! xx

Here is my latest arrangement, which is a modern arrangement. There were mixed feelings amongst my other class mates, about this one, but, overall, they liked it. Very simple to do, apart from a quick fight to tape the stems together.

A superb display Shemmy. I've tried to tweek the picture to bring out the colours..but having the most basic of applications I've lost some of the form (I hope you don't mind?)
