Suzy, following on from your comment on the birders thread, this is the sparrowhawk we had in our garden a few months ago, just after it had brought down a young collared dove , about 6ft away from our tightly shut back door in case Harry got out :

Goodness - you either have a marvellous camera or you were VERY close!
I did get a broom length away from one last summer but only had the broom on me, not a camera!
Great pic - thanks (I think!)

I was taking the dog for a walk last week and saw a male Sprawk on the ground - I think it was quite young, and a bit dazed, but as I approached it, it flew off into the trees. I was glad about that, as it was within 2ft of the pavement and close to a busy road.

I think I posted this previously, but it was such an incredible event..
Norma and I were sat in the living room last summer when there was a cafuffle outside and suddenly a sparrowhawk flew through the conservatory and into the living room. It landed quite easily on the back of a chair next to the telly, rested for a few of seconds then took off back into the conservatory, where it did a couple of circuits and then flew straight out of the door....the hairs still stand up on my arms as I think about it!!

There's a rather large sparrowhawk that I keep seeing at the turning from the A6 to the A47 over here - the junction of two autobahn is a strange place to see one, but it is quite heavily forested round there, so I suppose the hunting must be quite good.
