About 6 weeks ago our Bay tree's leaves started turning brown and it was obvious that it had been affected by some terminal incident. Not all the boughs were affected but as the weeks have progressed the pile of dead leaves has grown until last week I decided to top out about 6 feet of it. Without actually knowing the cause, though I can only imagine that the severe winter is involved, I am hoping by taking this severe action any life will be confined to the remaining six feet of tree and it may recover. Have I done the right thing?

Peek, thanks for that. It's fully mature tree growing on the edge of the lawn, none of the firs near it are affected. I shall try and take a piccie..
