THE SEA
Lovers walk along your outer edge Forgetting themselves and the other you; They see the pearls you string along the shore, They hear your soft whisper going on evermore; How can you be an enemy?
So calm, so peaceful, just a ripple; They see you, inviting, but little they know How quickly you turn and become the avenger: With trough and swell, warning of danger, You will never be mastered.
Death is your constant companion And, without respect, many more will find Your shroud enfolds them to carry them away; And those that remain will remember the day; Respect will be yours again.
Lessons to learn – you are not what you seem; You won’t always be the gentle playground: And yet there were those The bravest of all, when your wrath arose Fought to save their fellow men.
Why take life while we only pray For the safety of those who respect you the most: Why steal the lives of those who stray Through necessity upon your moving skin To challenge the strength within.
Man refuses respect for your changing moods And so the gauntlet is thrown at your feet; Your anger aroused, death stalks again; The battle won, you, silent remain Master of this planet, Earth.
