I have recently downloaded SKYPE onto my PC. I have used it to contact a friend and it's great. I was wondering if their are any other Skype users on here ?.

I use it a lot and have a land-line number associated with it, so people can get hold of me anywhere I'm logged in (It also has an answering service that will send an e-mail when someone leaves a message).
Useful when abroad, people can call a UK number and it'll still reach me, but without draconian roaming charges.

RayB, do you use the free version of Skype or the pay version? I do use it, with Big Tyg (Lt RN) and family currently living across the Pond, but only manage the most basic thing - a video call.
What you say about associating a landline sounds excellent, especially as it would mean we would be contactable for work if we're away.
Sorry - that wasn't exactly Toggy, was it! But I'm curious to know if I should be investigating our free version of Skype more thoroughly and nervous of doing so in case I accidentally change something!

I've got a UK land-line number that links straight to my Skype account - you can get one quite easily through Skype and in most cases it'll let you pick the STD and offer you a list of available numbers to choose from. There is a cost for this but it is only a couple of quid on a subscription basis (I do mine annually, as it's cheaper - I've done so for about 5 years). No matter where I am in the world, people calling that number in the UK can get hold of me, providing I've got a signal. There are no other costs to this if that is what you do. By default, you can also pay for a number in another country to link to your account, so for example, the same area code as your lad, so that he can call you from a land-line toll free. This works really well for friends or relatives that don't have ready access to a computer. There is also an answering service which is free to pick up from a PC, or if you load some credit onto your account you can pick them up remotely. Apart from the cost of subscribing to the Skype number, everything is done via the free version of the package. If you've got a smart-phone you may be able to install skype onto it as well, which means you can be reached by your contacts if you are out and about. (This will impact on any data allowance so be careful, but if connected to wi-fi it is not charged). I hope I've answered this clearly, if not, beat me over the head and I'll have another go

Oooh, never knew that about Skype - thanks, RayB! I think it's clear but my head is a bit foggy this week thanks to a nasty bug. I'll check it out and come back if I'm having problems. Not sure Big Tyg has discovered this either!
