Frankleapold asked about a new thread and I happened to be thinking about sandwiches at the time so, I thought, why not see what weird and wonderful delights we've cooked up in the past. Now I have a favourite flit through my memory and decide "that's the best sandwich I ever made" only to immediately replace it with another "favourite" sandwich so I'm still thinking about mine. It would have to be accompanied by a large Knockando, of course.
My brother - the King in Edinburgh (I bet someone remembers him from the early days here) - used to go into the kitchen to make a ham and cheese sandwich or a cheese and tomato one and come out, invariably, with ham or cheese with golden syrup and crushed up cheese and onion crisps between a slice of white and a slice of brown bread. I was never a huge fan of this choice but, when I tried it, it wasn't as bad as it sounded!
Anybody else like something a little unusual?

When it comes to comfort food...a Cheese and Cucumber Roll - washed down with a bowl of Heinz Tomato Soup.

Mmm - comfort food. Well, once I've discounted the obvious (Knockando and chocolate) I think I'd have to go with the Heinz Tomato Soup but with cheese on toast. I like mine with it toasted on one side, the other side spread with Dairylea and then either fresh tomato or a little Branston Pickle then thinly sliced Cheddar or Red Leicester. Pop it under the grill till it's just bubbling and starting to change colour but not blackened. Lovely!

Back in the day when Big Tyg (Lt Cdr RN) was in the Sixth Form, I had a period of ill health and he used to come home and make lunch for me. He didn't have a lot of time but came up with a treat I could manage to eat that I still enjoy today - egg and tomato sandwiches. Hard boil the eggs, dice them and some tomato and mix with salad cream or mayo depending on your preference. You can add some parsley or rocket if you like green stuff, both are delicious. Sadly, Knockando doesn't go well with this but a nice cup of tea does.
