Does anyone have some tactful phrases for dealing with a really smug, know-all, who is a friend of a friend. My friend and I have been friends for donkey years and this new friend of hers, who I have to say she is totally impressed with, whilst acknowledging she is a know-all, she just accepts all the verbal trash she pours out. I wouldn't mind if it was informed and intelligent.
I try to be tolerant but this smug woman has taken to just turning up, I usually find an excuse to leave, although I shouldn't have to.
She is like quite a few of the people in this village who for some unknown reason think they are superior!
Rant over but I am sick of talking to myself to keep calm. But I just cannot think of any way to handle this that I haven't already tried and failed with!
Suggestions please.

I would just advise to bide your time. If she is as you say, your friend will more than likely realise in time. If you do say anything, your friend may consider it to be jealousy on your part and be defensive of the new acquaintance.

Thanks for this. My friend is away for a short while so I have a reprieve!
