We will give it a bit longer but so far not impressed other than with the choice of music - now all we need is some clever kit that suppresses the talky bits.

Sadly, regarding CE, I have the breaking strain of a soggie kitkat and have turned off already as I knew I would when it was first annouced he would take over Tel's slot. I was really hoping Chris would make an effort to tone it down just a little.
Perhaps if he was to mellow out somewhat, but can't see that happening any time soon. If I listen with the volume off, will that fix it???
At any volume setting he is just way a wee bittie loud and harsh for my tender hearing and refined <coff> listening habits, and as for yon noisy blathering eejit that called in regarding blowing up hot water bottles, it was enough to drive the Missus up the wall and send us both hurtling into a headlong race to retune to Radio 4.
Now, that's sad.
Dear Uncle Tel was an easy act to follow, he would be the first to admit he was "rubbish" and I heartly agree along with his other ex listener. All frivolity aside, for now
As a person, Chris is a nice chap, but he is just way too LOUD and excitable, somewhat reminicent of a irritating ginger labrador puppy... *rolls up the daily snoozepaper*
"Settle doon Evans... or you'll cop it, richt on the snout!"
Guess I am still mourning Tel's departure from the airwaves in the morning.
Ok Kenny Bruce is is on now, retuning!

I don't think it's really aimed at the old audience - at least not those of us who like to be gently brought into a new day. There was no meniton of Chuffer Dandridge or anything at all of the old togs show. I suppose we will just have to make to with the weekly Sunday one (not that I will be able to hear it). Still, I suppose it's time to mvoe on.

Oh Michael what a sham that Sir Tel is now on at the same time as you do your only work of the week That's what Jenny told me anyway.

It was a wee bit loud for me, too, to be honest, although I did think he'd quietened down just a smidge from the Drivetime slot. No, really!
I need waking up slowly, and Chris isn't the sort to do that. He doesn't ease you into the day like a big cuddly dressing gown and fluffy slippers like STW.
I'm not saying he's awful or that I didn't like the show. Just that it was just a bit too manic in places and he could do to be a bit less enthusiastic.

Labrador puppy is so right !
Having said that, I feel that the hype surrounding Chris's new show is o.t.t.
Comparisons to STW are daft.
His style and personality could never be replaced.
That's why we became Togs - innit? !!!

Much too raucous for early morning. I find CE good in small doses but I can't take too much at once - I only managed 30 minutes of drivetime at once so 2 1/2 hours is much too much unless he settles down. I'll give him time and hope, but I guess he is aimimg for people who have only a short time available to listen and not old, has been, layabouts like what I am.
Ken Bruce now sounds ancient in comparison and the brevity of the 'hand-over' between shows seemed to say a lot by saying a little.

I did enjoy the choice of music, and I'm hopeful that he'll calm down quite a bit, lol.

Musical choices excellent, it's just the bits in between. He's like a puppy with ADHD..I think it's the timbre of his voice that grates with me most. I kept trying to switch off and then he'd seduce me with ELO or Supertramp. Did he play those on his drive time show? Will give him a chance, 'cos Terry asked me to but pining for the Togmeister big time

Aw lovely message from Sir Terry. What time was this, Hellen? I missed it but will listen again. Personally, I loved the music. I thought the programme was a bit too packed with features and would have liked more instant audience participation by email etc. like Terry had but it wasn't awful and I'm certainly happy to give it a fair chance. He could lose the Jukebox Jury slot and I wouldn't be upset. I can understand that Chris wants to make it his own show from the start and not an inferior copy of what Terry did so well. Nevertheless, roll on 14th February!

Quote from the Manchester Evening News today (Chris is Warrington born of course):
"I’m saying let’s forget the names (TOGGs or COGGs) and let’s do a show for everybody. If you are seven or 107 or anywhere in between or either side. I want to do a family show. There will be nothing to offend. There will be lots to be optimistic about, lots to be hopeful about. The thing that people want from a Radio 2 breakfast show is good music.”
p.s. yes I know that it is TOG's but I am quoting as it was written!
And the MEN was picked up free in Manchester Airport at 5.55 am. I really do think that they should change their name because this is Monday's EVENING news!! I digress, no change there then.

As I suspected, he is far too loud and 'shouty' for me at that time of the day.
I didn't mind him at all on drivetime because I was properly awake and better able to cope with the manic nature and pace. It seemed to me that most of the show WAS the drivetime show - very little difference between the two.
The bits I really disliked were the over excited people on the phone - I can't be doing with that first thing in the morning.
I'll give him a bit longer but as I always suspected, unless he quietens down a LOT, I will need to find something elsewhere. I had hoped that he would appreciate that not everyone can take his current noise/excitement levels at that hour of the day but on todays evidence if he has, he isn't minded to do anything about it.
As to the music played - it was OK but then, as far as I know, they are bound, at least in part, by a playlist as all the other shows are.

I am listening to the show on the BBCi player and am pleased the volume control on my PC works! Wow, does Chris shout, or is it me? The music, however, is quite good and it's great to hear Moira Stuart again. In fact, she's the best thing on the show up to now....

I agree that the music was about right (for me anyway) but the show was not the gentle one we have grown used to. The BBC are obviously after new listeners and just bringing back the lady out of her cupboard (as nice as she is) is not going to make the programme much gentler. I'll try it for a bit longer - but I may find that I will switch off the radio and consentrate on my work. While Terry was on I was able to skim through the papers (on line) and play games of scabble with people 'Down Under' - and even as far away as Doncaster and Brummyland.

Terry's good luck message to Chris was on at just after 8am, and can be heard on the BBCi player 1hr 01min 42secs into the show. Such a lovely gesture by Sir Terry, and just shows what a great guy he is.

Well, I've always like Chris and I'm happy he's on in the morning. Of course it's not the same, but then he's not the same as Terry. If he were, I'm sure he'd be slated for trying to imitate him. He's bright and cheerful which gives me a smile in the morning and I for one am happy with that.

I haven't listened yet, so can't say how I found the show but Listen again is heading my way as Jeremy Vine gets switched off (I can't stand Jeremy's show for any reason, he drives me absolutely potty). I was hoping when it was announced that Chris wouldn't be as manic, maybe I'm about to be disillusioned.
However, the point is, I think, that this is his first day - whatever he did would be looked at very closely, even critiqued heavily depending on who is doing the looking. As Uncle Bulgaria pointed out, and I agree, he isn't and never will be our beloved Terry whatever happens but I don't think any of us really considered just what would be missing when Terry went. I had it in my head I think that it would be like people covering for when Sir Tel had his hols but never accepted that there would be more change than that.
People are entitled to their opinions on how they found this morning - hopefully no-one will hang him without having given him a fair trial first - I may yet tune him out myself, you never know.
