The music was fine but for me it was just another music program. It lacked the warmth and charm - and magic of WUTW. I suppose its not just Sir Terry I miss - its all the others, Deadly, Boggy etc , and the interaction with his regular TOGS. It left me feeling really sad. But I'll give him a chance.

Sir Terry will bring the TOGs back together on Sundays. He wants everyone to carry on writing in and being involved.

Didn't listen to the show as not in work today, I'll give it a tentative go tomorrow. I listened to a bit on listen again but didn't last long as I hate that Beatles song and don't really like Frank either (bit controversial there). Sounds like he is exactly replicating the drivetime show which is a bit sanguineous lazy quite frankly. All in all I would say an inauspicious start...if I could spell it

Very, very saddened. It's the difference between the warm fug of the Staff Room with the friendly badinage and companionship and the screaming oiks in the playground with an attention span of about 5 seconds.
I was appalled when Mr Evans was appointed but came to believe the propaganda that "he's quietened down a lot" and he "wants to work with the TOGs". I put the alarm on, listened with growing nausea and finally had to switch off. I tried again on the repaly thingummywatsit - same result. Sorry, but it's local radio for now. I think the BBC hates us - reactionary, old guard, dispensibel - why don't they all just shuffle off. OK - we will.

I really don't like being shouted at.[/quot Im with you. I like Chris at drivetime but find him a wee bit loud at 7o'Clock.

Well, I'm no spring chicken and I've listened to WUTW for years but I like Chris Evans and loved the show. "Manic", "shouty" - no, he's fun, energetic, enthusiastic, loves his work. No shuffling off for me - perhaps a little boogeying.... in the privacy of my own home that is!

The bits I really disliked were the over excited people on the phone - I can't be doing with that first thing in the morning.
I agree, and I definitely don't want to hear CHILDREN at that time either. I thought it was just a re run of his drive time slot. Didn't hear the Juke Box Jury thing, but I don't think I would have liked it, again OK for the evening, but not too sure for the morning! Still, I'll keep listening for the moment, as there isn't an alternative here as I can't stand the adverts on local radio Dibs xx

The music was fine. But please spare me from all the unnecessary requests, Happy Birthdays, children who haven't got a clarinet etc etc. And also that stupid 'news quiz' and all the other slots. Gone is the innuendo, gone the gentle humour. I could go on and on. If it stays like this then it'll just be another radio request show - like so many others. Pity Ken Bruce couldn't have been moved to Breakfast.... After several attempts to give CE a fair hearing I ended up listening to Radio 3 this morning on my 2 hr journey to work!! You took the words right out of my mouth there, Tansy. I don't care how cute they are.... listening to children and morons is not my idea of great radio.

I'm afraid CE is much too frenetic and loud for me, drive time was ok but not at 7 o'clock in the morning. I think he's a very nice young man,I'll give him another couple of days but I don't think I'll stay with radio 2 between 7 and 9.30 in the mornings. I also missed the radio 2 family feel with changing the news people every two hours,it was that kind of chit chat that also added to Terrys show............But I'm looking forward very much to Terrys first run of his sunday shows.

I had a surprise when I heard "Luke Warm hit". Crikey! I listened up to about 8.50. Nice mix of music - Beatles and Frank (memories of last year's convention karaoke!) When things get a bit chatty/manic, just switch to Radio 3 for a few mo's.

Well, I tried.
Style too brash and loud; annoying phone-ins; good music (today, at least) but the ends walked all over; as has been said, drive-time all over again.
I gave up when I heard the sports review coming.
I didn't want a replacement for Sir Terry - miracles don't happen. But I would have liked a programme that carried on in a similar style to ease me into the day.
Alex Lester would have been good.
Obviously, as happened with Radio Solent, Radio 2 is trying to lower the age range of its listeners, starting with this programme. I hope they have more success than Solent which lost its older listeners but never attracted the younger ones. They have certainly succeeded in driving away this old fogey.

It's possible that he thought " I'll throw everything in and see what gets the most complaints, and then ditch those bits".
I agree that he will be trying to lower the age group, but for goodness sake, it was the first programme....give him a chance and he might have calmed down by next week !

Maybe you are right, although remembering his days on the TV show years ago (TFI Friday) he has not changed in the interim, so "leopards" and "spots" comes to mind.
Perhaps I'll try him again in a few weeks to see what has happened.

Chris did say that you can always let him know what they got right and what they didn't get right.
Perhaps it's worth a try?

As a new 'not so TOG' at 36, I listened this morning, just to see what CE was offering. Some good, some not so good, some bad and some bl**dy awful. Having listened to STW for several years, I felt I had to give CE and the crew a chance. At the end of the day this is now the Chris Evans Breakfast Show, not 'wake up to wogan with Chris Evans'. Perhaps in time Chris and the team will 'tweak' the show and get rid of the things that do not work and look at introducing items that are more suited to the morning show. To move from the cr*p that is Radio 1 breakfast to Radio 2 drivetime then breakfast is a big step and no matter who Auntie recruited to replace STW, that individual would find it very difficult to fill STW's comfy slippers. As for CE being too young, we must remember that when STW started his first stint back in 1972, he was quite a bit younger than CE is now. The reactions back then to the change from John Dunn to STW may have been the same as now ( Before I was even born i hasten to add), only back then listeners did not have the benefit of T'internet and forums like this. Its only been CE's first day and love him or hate him, we will have to give him and Radio 2 time to see if this bold move will work.. God forbid if the other option to listen to is the oversized t*rd that is Moyles on Radio 1.

I emailed the show yesterday. Asked for it to be toned down a bit and ditch the phone ins. I thought I'd just give them a couple of things to start off with! ;D

I'm listening to some apt lyrics on Radio 2 while I type this - from ABBA's SOS - "Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find ...." and thinking back to the TOGmeister's style of broadcasting, so different to that of CW.
Listened to CW for 45 minutes yesterday then had to turn off - too shouty and grating, as had already been said.
However, my radio is still programmed to Radio 2, from force of habit over many years. I'll give him a little bit longer, but my finger is hovering over that - dare I admit - Radio 1 button (if I can find it) .......

Lots of excellent observations here, yes, he is a bit frantic and loud, and yes, we have to give him a chance to make the programme his own. Sir Terry is such a hard act to follow, and a pale immitation wouldn't do at all as we would just be muttering about whoever, being a 'pale immitation'. Couldn't listen yesterday as I had a dentist appointment. Listening now though, so see how it goes and give it a few weeks. Not terribly impressed so far, but what I really, really miss are the letters from my fellow togs Just heard one very familar name read out though, and for once, it was his real one
