I do feel feel that Chris's biggest fault is that he's not STW! There's nothing he can do about that. If Chris Evans have tried to duplicated WUTW that would have been wrong as is the fact that he is being himself and doing what he does best - entertain.
IMVHO many on here believe that no one would replace STW apart from another STW.
All TOGS are going to find it hard to adjust but it will take time for CE to settle in to what is a very different audience to what he is used to. I think everyone should give both themselves and CE time to settle into the role.

I found it very D U double L dull.
Where is the entertainment in a live person ringing up and telling us that she is wearing black trousers and a blue T-shirt?
Is it me?
The music was surprisingly great though.

No Lyn, it has nothing to do with him not being STW.
It is to do with him being a brash, bouncy and loud which is too much for some to cope with at that time in the morning - s'all.
He is a calm sensible mature person normally - so why does all that change when he has a microphone infront of him?

I also enjoyed the music, but found the incessant phone calls very irriating. Also the chap with the questions and answers about snowflakes and the Juke Box Jury annoyed me. Works well at drivetime, but not first thing in the morning. Terry's gentle humour was just what was need in the mornings.
I hope he, or someone in his team, reads what people are writing and takes it on board.

We are not all in denial and recognise that Terry had to leave at some point. I find any suggestion that my view is based upon his not being Terry a tad patronising. We tried listening to CE on Drivetime and could not get on with his style at all. Same now.

I haven't listened yet, so can't say how I found the show but Listen again is heading my way as Jeremy Vine gets switched off (I can't stand Jeremy's show for any reason, he drives me absolutely potty). I was hoping when it was announced that Chris wouldn't be as manic, maybe I'm about to be disillusioned.
You may have to wait a bit longer - Fern Britton is standing in for Jeremy Vine today!

The music was fine. But please spare me from all the unnecessary requests, Happy Birthdays, children who haven't got a clarinet etc etc. And also that stupid 'news quiz' and all the other slots. Gone is the innuendo, gone the gentle humour. I could go on and on.
If it stays like this then it'll just be another radio request show - like so many others.
Pity Ken Bruce couldn't have been moved to Breakfast....
After several attempts to give CE a fair hearing I ended up listening to Radio 3 this morning on my 2 hr journey to work!!

Day off today, so I was able to hear the entire show.
Now I was never an Evans fan to begin with; his first shows for Radio 1 were awful, and when he came to Breakfast on R1, I was blissfully unaware of all the kerfuffle (except for all the newspaper coverage) because I was safely tuned to the su-u-unsational Tony Blackburn on Capital Gold.
But I thought, when he first came to R2, let's give the lad a chance, and fair dos, I've enjoyed him on Drivetime.
This morning? Well, I think he'll be OK. Leaving aside the slightly self-congratulatory tone of today's show (understandable, I s'pose), I reckon he'll settle down. The only real criticism I have is of the choice of that silly bloke on the phone towards the end of the programme - listen again if you can be ar$ed - otherwise, good first attempt, Evans, 7 out of 10.

Nick, I am pretty much with you.
For as many people as there will be who decide it is not for them, I think there will be an equivalent number who did not like STW (yes, there were some) but who will be attracted to it.
I did not find CE overly shouty. I thought it was fresh, different, and some bits worked beter than others (drop the mystery guest interview and the either/or quiz) - Moira's Oldie was lovely.
I will listen to it whenevr I am up and about at that hour.
If CE had continued with the email interaction and subtle innuendo we would have had cries of 'yes, but he is not Terry'.
STW is no longer the breakfast show presenter, he is now a weekend show presenter. I am afraid I feel that change should be embraced as otherwise we are stuck in the past. It may have been wonderful, whimsical and just right for us, but it is the past.

I listened this morning to some of the show and my initial response was not good. I felt that it was too frenetic and a bit noisy!!. I know I'm a Tog....but, I wish it could be toned down slightly. I will listen again but the jury might be out for a while !!.

Frank, you read my mind! frenetic is a great description of this youngster's style.
The choice of music was excellent but, as is echoed in earlier postings, there was a surfeit of vacuous drivel. There may be a game plan........ Could he be gently luring the younger listeners to his breakfast show after all the hype, with a view to gradually tempering his frenzied assault on the day? I will wait and see.
Don't forget folks, the Togmeister (may his retirement be a peaceful one) had the most popular show on British radio. I do not think that falling ratings will be tolerated by those who think they must be obeyed.

My opinion on CE being to manic and shouty for the morning has nothing whatever to do with the fact that he is not Terry Wogan. I never expected him to be nor thought he should be.
It wouldn't matter who was on at that hour of the day. If they were shouty and manic I wouldn't like it! If Terry Wogan had been loud, had phone ins and all the other stuff we were subjected to this morning, I wouldn't have listened to him either! As I said, before, I didn't mind CE on Drivetime, I can cope with loud by that time of the day.
I'll give it a bit longer but it really needs quieting down a good deal for me.

I gave it an hour to see if it would improve......it didn't so switched him off......
He is a presenter that one either likes or hates, and he has never flicked my switch, and didn't this morning either. I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, and hoped he had quietened down, some hope that was !
As others have said, I much preferred the format of Terry's show, eased you gently into the day whether you were still in bed or on the way to work !!!
Seems the younger listeners appreciate his manic style. Phone ins do not interest me at that time of the day.
We all knew that Terry would retire one day, but what a shame he had to be replaced by CE !! I can think of other presenters who could have eased themselves gently into the vacant slot ( Ken Bruce for one) But hey ho, CE is in the chair and now I will have to find another programme to listen to !!

A great start, well done Chris, it's about time we had a new youthful approach that appeals to all ages and not just us aging TOGS. More of the same please.
